Spring is right around the corner! The sun stays out later, plants are growing, I can even feel myself changing with the seasons. It’s my favorite time of year. It feels as if I’m waking up after winter with ideas flowing and more energy to put into designing and making new things.
With all this new found spring energy, I am focusing on putting it to use in different ways. I’m starting a blog on my website as a way to share more about myself and my process, and I’ll be sending out a monthly newsletter to share what has been happening this past month.
So let’s cut to the chase. March, what a month! After spending most of January and February deep in my creative process, working on spring and summer collections, I started the month with a photoshoot for the new line. For the first time, I hired a photographer and stylist to help me with my product shots, and I was super nervous about trusting someone else with my vision, especially someone I had never met! My stylist, Ronya, chose The Art Factory in Paterson, NJ for the location. An amazing warehouse with huge windows and even some great big plants in the corner of one room. Christina of Christina Julia Photography came through with her great eye for using natural light.
I also had the amazing fortune to be interviewed by the Asbury Park Press for a feature along with 4 other female makers in New Jersey. It could not have come at a more perfect time because I was able to send in some of my new photos and one of them was selected for the cover of the features section. I’m still so excited! You can read the article HERE. I love the Asbury Park community and I can’t wait to be back on Mother’s Day, May 14th, with the Asbury Park Bazaar.
March stayed true to its motto “In like a lion and out like a lamb” as the beginning of the month was much more exciting than the end. But I finished up March by launching my new tropical summer print. If you've been following my business for a while you may have noticed that I like to name prints after the locations that have inspired them. Well, sometimes I design a print and then pick the location that it reminds me of, obviously not an exact science. This print however, was inspired a little bit by warm tropical locations but also by one of my close friends who really loves pineapples. She happens to be from Laguna, CA and it just clicked!
That’s it for this month, thanks for reading!
